International Student Visa and
Immigration Requirements for New Zealand

If you intend to study in New Zealand for longer than 12 weeks, you must apply for a student visa or permit at your nearest NZ High Commission before arriving in the country.

Passport Validity

‍All visitors must carry a passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended date of departure from NZ.

‍Health Certificates
‍
‍If your stay exceeds 12 months, you must submit a Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate (INZ1007) with your application.

‍Visa Processing
‍
‍It can take up to six weeks to process a student visa. You must hold a valid student visa prior to traveling to New Zealand.

Important Note on Fees and Permits: If you choose to pay your course fees in instalments, Immigration New Zealand will only issue your student permit for the duration covered by each instalment amount.

Working While Studying

It is possible to work while studying in New Zealand; however, there are strict limits on the maximum number of hours permitted under your visa conditions.
