Health, Safety, and Insurance for International Students

Medical, Travel, and Accident Insurance for International Students

Mandatory requirements for your protection in New Zealand

Insurance is Mandatory
All international students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while in New Zealand. Students will not be accepted without proof of current medical and travel insurance, which will be required on arrival.

NAC Provider
NAC can provide insurance through Southern Cross Insurance if required. Please contact us prior to your departure to ensure coverage, including travel to the college.

Health services entitlements liability
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment, you may be liable for the full cost.

Ministry of Health
Full details on entitlements are available through the Ministry of Health: www.moh.govt.nz

Accident Insurance (ACC)
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides accident insurance for all temporary visitors to New Zealand. However, ACC does not cover all medical and related costs, so comprehensive medical insurance is still essential. ACC website: www.acc.co.nz.

NZ Medical Certificate

Overseas clients must use a New Zealand designated Medical examiner when applying for a New Zealand medical certificate. A directory of these examiners is listed here: CAANZ Medical Directory.
