Entry Requirements for International Students  

Academic and Aptitude Prerequisites for Professional Courses

To ensure your success in our rigorous programmes, all international students must meet specific prerequisites, especially for the NZ Diploma in Aviation (General Aviation Level 5, Flight Instruction Level 6, or Airline Preparation Level 6) strands.

English Language

Proof of competence in spoken and written English is mandatory.

Aviation Experience

Some experience around aircraft or evidence of self-motivated efforts to educate yourself about aviation.

Cognitive Capacity

NCEA Level 3 Certificate (or equivalent) OR a pass in all CAANZ Private Pilot Licence (PPL) subjects. Please refer to the Academic Entry Requirement Guidelines for overseas equivalency.

Medical Standard

A current CAANZ Medical Certificate Class 1 is required. You must present this to NAC before commencing training. See Medical section for designated examiners.

Fit and Proper Person

Required by the CAA of New Zealand. Provide up-to-date Criminal Conviction and Transport Offence history from any country you have lived in for more than six months in the last five years.

Aptitude Testing

Must achieve a Medium, Above Average, or High result in the ADAPT© Pre-screening Online Assessment.

English Language Exemptions & Equivalency  

The following are accepted proof of English proficiency:

• Completion of an NCEA Level 3 qualification meeting NZ University Entrance requirements.
• Award of an International Baccalaureate Diploma or Cambridge A-level taught and assessed in English.
• Prior schooling (five years of secondary or all primary and three years of secondary) completed in Australia, Canada, the UK, the US, or other specified English-speaking countries.

Note for PPL Courses:There are no academic entry requirements for a Private Pilot Licence course. However, English as a second language students must achieve a minimum overall IELTS score of 5.5, with no subpart below 5.0, to hold a NZ CAA PPL licence.
