Application Review to Course Offer

Upon receiving your complete training registration form and required documentation, our staff will contact you and may request further information.

‍Aptitude and Interview
‍
‍
All professional course enrolments require aptitude testing and an interview (Skype for overseas residents, on-site for those in NZ).

‍Documentation Check
‍
‍
Acceptance onto any course is conditional upon providing all documentation outlined in the Enrolment section, most importantly the NZ CAA Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate (for professional courses).

Obtaining Your First CAA Medical Certificate

‍
Before you begin your professional flight training, you must secure your Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requires all applicants to complete the following process to obtain their initial certificate.

First, register online with MyAviation to obtain your CAA Participant ID, which you will use for all future aviation activities. Once registered, you must pay the medical application fee through the CAA online payment portal. The fee is $132.83 for New Zealand residents and $115.50 for non-residents. You must retain the email receipt to show your examiner.

Next, choose a CAA approved Medical Examiner from the official directory and book your appointment. Prior to your examination, download and complete the first three pages of the Application for Medical Certificate form. You must provide a highly accurate and thorough medical history, noting your payment receipt number at the top of the form.

When you attend your appointment, bring your partially completed application, your fee payment receipt, and a valid photographic ID such as a passport or New Zealand driver licence. Your examiner will complete the final section of your form, conduct the required medical tests, and advise you if any external specialist assessments are needed, such as a CAA Special Eye Report.

Following your appointment, your examiner will review your results. If additional reports are needed, your assessment will be deferred until they are received. Once you meet the required standards, your examiner will issue your medical certificate. In cases where standard requirements are not immediately met, your examiner can apply for an Accredited Medical Conclusion to explore flexibility options based on your specific circumstances.
